Abtex International supplies GRS-certified PCW Denim Cotton Fiber — recycled from post-consumer denim garments discarded by end users. Our PCW fiber keeps denim out of landfill and feeds it back into the textile supply chain as a certified recycled input for yarn spinning, nonwoven production, and home textile manufacturing.
PCW Denim Fiber — short for Post-Consumer Waste Denim Fiber — is recycled cotton fiber produced by mechanically breaking down denim garments that have been used by consumers and then discarded. These include jeans, denim jackets, denim shirts, and other cotton-rich denim clothing that have reached the end of their useful life.
The “post-consumer” classification is significant: it refers specifically to textile waste that has passed through consumer use — as opposed to post-industrial waste (PIW), which comes from factory offcuts or manufacturing surplus that never reached a consumer. PCW fiber therefore diverts a much larger and harder-to-recover waste stream away from landfill and back into the supply chain.
The discarded denim garments are collected, sorted by color and fiber composition, shredded into clips, and then run through an industrial tearing (garnetting) machine that opens them back into individual cotton fibers — ready to be re-spun into recycled denim yarn, GRS certified yarn, or processed into nonwoven and insulation materials.
PCW denim fiber completes the circle — bringing end-of-life denim garments back into commercial textile use without downcycling to low-quality output.
Post-consumer denim garments (jeans, jackets, shirts) are collected from end users through take-back programmes, textile banks, charity collections, and municipal waste streams.
Collected denim is sorted by color (indigo, dark, medium, light, bleached) and fiber composition (pure cotton vs. stretch blends). Buttons, zippers, and labels are removed.
Sorted denim is clipped and run through multi-cylinder tearing machines that mechanically open the fabric back into individual cotton fibers — producing denim shoddy / PCW fiber.
Finished PCW fiber is bale-pressed, tagged with GRS lot references, and shipped FOB Karachi to certified spinners, nonwoven mills, and industrial buyers worldwide.

Both PCW and PIW are GRS-eligible recycled fiber types, but they differ in source, consistency, and sustainability credentials. Abtex supplies both.
PCW fiber is recovered from denim clothing that has been used by consumers and then discarded — the highest-impact recycled fiber category for GRS and ESG reporting.
PIW fiber comes from textile manufacturing waste — cutting room offcuts, rejected rolls, and surplus from denim mills — before reaching the consumer. Cleaner and more consistent than PCW.
Our post-consumer denim fiber feeds directly into multiple textile and industrial sectors — from recycled yarn spinning to automotive composites.
PCW denim fiber is the primary input for open-end and ring-spun recycled denim yarn. Blended with recycled polyester or virgin cotton for target yarn counts and strength requirements.
Recycled Denim Yarn →Mills certified under GRS use our PCW fiber — with matching TCs — to spin GRS Certified Yarn for brands requiring verified recycled content in finished garments and home textiles.
GRS Certified Yarn →PCW denim fiber is processed into insulation batts used in residential and commercial wall cavities and loft spaces — a sustainable, non-irritant alternative to fibreglass insulation.
Needlepunched PCW denim nonwoven panels are used in automotive interiors, office partitions, and architectural acoustic tiles for sound absorption without synthetic inputs.
Used as sustainable padding and filling in sofas, chair cushions, and mattress toppers — a cost-effective, lower-carbon alternative to virgin polyester fiberfill.
PCW yarn is woven or knitted into recycled-content home textiles including blankets, throws, and made-up products — linking back to Abtex’s own home textile range.
Home Textile Made-ups →More and more global brands are specifying post-consumer recycled fiber in their sustainability roadmaps — driven by retailer requirements, EU regulations, and consumer expectations around circular fashion. PCW denim fiber is one of the most commercially scalable ways for brands to increase recycled content in their products.
Major retailers increasingly require a minimum recycled content percentage in sourced goods. PCW fiber with GRS TCs provides the verified documentation needed to satisfy compliance audits.
The EU’s Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation and Green Claims Directive require substantiated evidence for recycled content claims. GRS-certified PCW fiber provides exactly this evidence trail.
Brands reporting under GHG Protocol or CDP need verifiable Scope 3 data. Sourcing GRS-certified PCW fiber from Abtex gives your sustainability team the supply-chain documentation to back up emissions reduction claims.
PCW fiber closes the loop on denim — one of the world’s highest-volume textile categories. Incorporating PCW into your supply chain demonstrates a tangible circular economy commitment beyond offsetting.
We offer GRS-certified PCW fiber with full documentation, flexible grade options, and direct communication with our Pakistan-based team.
Our PCW fiber operations are GRS-certified. We issue Transaction Certificates with each shipment so your downstream mill can maintain their own GRS certification without interruption.
From deep Indigo to Bleached — PCW denim fiber is sorted and supplied in five consistent color grades, reducing variability in your yarn or nonwoven output.
Every shipment includes GRS TC, Certificate of Origin, Commercial Invoice, Bill of Lading, Packing List, and MSDS — ready for customs clearance and compliance review.
We export PCW denim fiber to certified mills and nonwoven producers in Europe, North America, and the Middle East. FOB Karachi with CNF and CIF options available.
PCW stands for Post-Consumer Waste. In the context of denim fiber, it means the fiber has been recovered from denim garments — jeans, jackets, shirts — that were used by consumers and then discarded. This distinguishes it from post-industrial waste (PIW), which comes from factory offcuts and manufacturing surplus that never reached a consumer. The “post-consumer” classification carries higher sustainability credentials for GRS certification and ESG reporting purposes.
PCW denim cotton fiber is used across multiple applications: open-end and ring-spun recycled denim yarn spinning, GRS certified yarn production, residential and commercial building insulation, automotive acoustic panels, furniture and upholstery filling, needlepunched nonwoven fabrics, and home textile products. The specific application determines the required color grade, staple length, and contamination tolerance.
Yes. Abtex International holds GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certification for its PCW denim fiber operations. We issue a GRS Transaction Certificate (TC) with every commercial shipment. The TC links the specific fiber lot to our Scope Certificate and provides your downstream mill or manufacturer with the documentation they need to maintain their own GRS chain-of-custody certification. Our Scope Certificate is available to share with buyers on request.
We sort and supply PCW denim fiber in five color grades prior to the tearing process: Indigo / Dark (deep blue, raw denim), Medium Wash (standard worn denim — most common), Light Wash (faded / stone-washed), Bleached (near-white), and Mixed (unsorted, most economical). For spinning and yarn applications, we recommend ordering a single color grade to ensure consistent output. Mixed grade is suitable for insulation and acoustic applications where color is irrelevant.
Yes — PCW denim fiber blends well with recycled polyester (rPET), virgin polyester, viscose, and virgin cotton. Common blend ratios include 50/50 PCW denim / recycled polyester and 70/30 PCW denim / rPET for open-end yarn. For ring-spun applications, a blend with a proportion of longer-staple virgin cotton helps maintain yarn strength. Our team can advise on blend ratios based on your target yarn count and end application. See also our Post Consumer Recycled Yarn page.
PCW (Post-Consumer Waste) denim fiber comes from garments used and discarded by consumers. PIW (Post-Industrial Waste) recycled cotton comes from factory manufacturing waste — cutting room offcuts and rejected fabric rolls. PIW is generally cleaner, more uniform, and more consistent than PCW, but has a lower environmental impact credential for GRS and ESG purposes. PCW is preferred by brands making consumer-facing sustainability claims. Both are available from Abtex — see our PIW Recycled Cotton page for details.
Every PCW denim fiber shipment from Abtex comes with: GRS Transaction Certificate (TC), Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Bill of Lading, Certificate of Origin (Pakistan), and MSDS/SDS. On request we can also arrange: fiber composition test report (SGS/Intertek), moisture content certificate, shade/color reference images, and pre-shipment inspection report. All documentation is available in English in both hard copy and digital formats.
